Breakaway Music Festival 2017 Gears Up For Another Stunning Year
Last year Breakaway Music Festival pulled out all the stops. They brought GRAMMY Award winner Chance The Rapper out among other incredible performers. The event was well ran and they are excited to gear up for another festival this year. The two-day, outdoor music event including headlining and up-and-coming artists that breakaway from traditional music genres will take place Sept. 1-2, 2017.
The festival was attended by over 20,000 and received accolades on its well-balanced bill which included Rae Sremmurd, Young Thug, Dillon Francis, RL Grime and 21 additional acts (not including the 20+ Silent Disco performers).
“Breakaway in 2016 exceeded our expectations and we felt it was only fitting to bring it back to MAPFRE Stadium (where the event was birthed in 2013),” said Zach Ruben, co-founder of Prime Social Group. “This allows for enhanced amenities including easy parking, quality restroom facilities and on-brand food and beverage options. The options for production enhancements are almost limitless as well.”
Breakaway Music Festival made its debut in 2013 at MAPFRE Stadium then re-emerged in 2016 at the adjacent Ohio Expo Center Fairgrounds. In addition to today’s announcement of Breakaway Columbus, festival organizers are proud to expand the brand to Grand Rapids for the first ever Breakaway Michigan.
Early bird ticketing begins Friday, April 14, at 12 PM EST. Two-day early bird tickets start at $ 70 for GA, $ 130 for VIP. Russ Drops “The Best Party”, Proving That 2017 Is Definitely His Year
One of the biggest come ups in hip hop of 2016 is bound to be one of the most talked about artists of the new year. One sure fire sign that you’re making waves is when you have the (literal) entire crowd screaming your song lyrics. Russ has multiple catchy tracks that have hip hop heads and radio djs alike very impressed; “What They Want”, “Do It Myself”, and “Young God” to name a few.
The thing that is most impressive about Russ is his triple threat ability; he makes his own beats, raps over them and sings his own hooks and he does it all extremely well. This isn’t my personal opinion either, peep his SoundCloud, most tracks he dropped last year have AT LEAST 1M views. His complex song lyrics down to his minimalist track covers and do it myself mentality have me wondering what the Atlanta talent is all about.
In his latest release, “The Best Party”, he chronicles his hard work that got him to where he is today. Of course the featured producer here is Russ because what would a Russ track be if it wasn’t all Russ. He rides the chill old-school-esque beat with that smooth flow we’ve grown to love from him. If you’re looking to catch the homie live, he’s already been announced at Okeechobee and Bonnaroo and I’m sure we’ll see him on a few more. Stay on the lookout for that but for now turn this one up!

Pegboard Nerds Unleash “Blackout” Via Monstercat’s 5 Year Anniversary Compilation
The wait is finally over, Pegboard Nerds highly anticipated single “Blackout” has arrived! Yes, it is odd seeing the Scandinavian duo’s name behind a tune that isn’t dubstep, but this track is an electro beauty. I mean would you really expect anything less from these two? Let’s not forget the ventured into the world of electro with “Emergency” and look how successful that bad boy was. These nerds are much more than a one-trick pony.
“Blackout” has been released to celebrate Monstercat’s 5 Year Anniversary as part of their latest compilation that is full of the latest and greatest from the label. Similar to other Pegboard Nerds releases this original is an explosive tune that is sure to be a fan favorite throughout the remainder of festival season.
4 years ago Adam “MCA” Yauch of the Beastie Boys passed away after his 3 year battle with cancer, he would pass away at age 47. One-third of the Beastie Boys, MCA was cooler than a cucumber in a bowl of hot sauce. He was a self-taught bass guitarist, a Buddhist monk, the founder of in my opinion the greatest white act in Hip-Hop, the Beastie Boys and founded his own independent film company, Oscilloscope Pictures. He also had a hand in human rights movements, he was a strong supporter of the LGBT (Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender) rights and feminist movement. So as they say there is no sleep in Brooklyn, MCA is never restless since his impact lives in Hip-Hop, forever. Salute to MCA and the Beastie Boys for their impacts in Rap and Hip-Hop, may MCA Rest In Peace. Here’s a clip of the Beastie Boys acceptance speech from their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction in 2012, MCA couldn’t attend due to his illness.
It’s always a pleasure when a well-versed DJ steps into the world of producing. They know the scene better than anyone, and they’re proficient in merging their artistic impulses with the desires of the masses. LA-based DJ/producer Wednesday is an artist of this caliber. “I Know” is her debut original single, and what a stellar debut it is (and today is Wednesday!).
This dance floor-dominating track carries elements of future house, but the melodies are more numerous and compelling than most songs in the genre. The track presents engaging ideas and impeccable grooves throughout, and it will surely make you as stoked as I am for what’s to come from Wednesday in 2016!
