“I met Sagan at a festival in Ukraine last summer and we were talking about music for hours. I played his latest releases on Hexagon Records in all my sets and definitely was already a fan of his sound. Sagan was following our music for years as well, so after we met in person it was time to do a collab! We can’t wait to release this collab!” –Plastik Funk

Funk and Hip-Hop Unite in Arona Mane’s “2096:Retro/Future”

Funk and Hip-Hop Unite in Arona Mane’s “2096:Retro/Future”
Garret

Sydney-based artist Arona Mane just announced his latest project that shows off the producer’s captivating take on future funk, while also displaying his musical aptitude in mixing all types of genres to create his own personal sound. This new development comes in the form of a 10-track mixtape that is filled to the brim with Arona Mane’s best work. Drawing inspiration from a number of influences, his new mixtape 2096:Retro/Future is a flawless mixture of funk, soul and hip-hop elements, ranging from his own forward-thinking productions to his personal renditions of tracks from Major Lazer, Tate Kobang, Hermitude.

2096 refers to bringing the golden age of hip-hop into the future. ‘96 is widely regarded as the best year in hip-hop, which saw the release of some of the now classic albums from Jay Z, The Fugees, Snoop, 2Pac, Nas, Outkast and The Roots. Musing these greats, I wanted to present an actual body of work very early on, in an effort to introduce my sound in a bigger way. The electronic music scene is generally dominated by artists who release single after single, which is cool, but since I was a kid, I’ve always fallen in love with artists because of their albums as a whole – I want to deliver that feeling with my music.” – Arona Mane

Hopsin Threatening To Leave Funk Volume Over Issues With Co-Founder Damien Ritter

Hopsin Threatening To Leave Funk Volume Over Issues With Co-Founder Damien Ritter

Hopsin is currently having issues with Funk Volume threatening To Leave due to issues with his business partner, Damien Ritter who co-founded Funk Volume back in 2009.

This is what Hopsin had to say as he took these issues public on social media.

“F*ck Damien Ritter. This man is the death of funk volume,” Hopsin wrote.

“I’ve been having issues with my business partner Damien Ritter,” he later elaborated. “We started this whole FV sh*t years ago, but this man has all the sudden built up the courage to disrespect me and tell me I don’t work hard when I’ve made him Extremely wealthy over the years from my music. At this point, if he doesn’t leave funk volume, then I will. I’m putting it out there publicly so he knows that it’s f*ck him forever. If ur a real Hopsin fan, I need your support right now and I only hope u continue to strongly support me if/when I leave FV. My heart will always rep FV, but as of right now, it’s not home for me as long as Dame is apart of it.”

“If ur a real Hopsin fan, i hope u still f*ck with me with or without Fv,” Hopsin continued. “This isn’t something I want, it’s just something that may need to happen. I made this man VERY wealthy over the years from my music, and for him to tell me I don’t work hard at all is just flat-out disrespect.”

“Never forget the reason why u even have a little name in this business pal. My Raw vision paid u big time”

He concluded by saying the issues between him and Ritter cannot be resolved easily: “I’m sorry guys, but this situation doesn’t end with a ‘got ya’. I wish it did.”

Dropout Dive Deeper Into Their Unique Euphoric Funk With “You Always Win”

Dropout Dive Deeper Into Their Unique Euphoric Funk With “You Always Win”
Toby Reaper

With their debut single “Slowly”, Dropout came onto the scene and made some huge waves with their funky midtempo style that did very well with satisfying your subs. Now they are back with a second original “You Always Win”, and it’s funny they talk about YOU always winning when they seem to be the ones that always win. Uplifting yet wistful in tone, the track has plenty of energy to help you overcome your own struggle with letting someone else into your mind and controlling your every thought. It happens to the best of us, and there’s not much we can do to stop it from happening with that certain someone. When this song hits your speakers, there’s not much you will be able to do to stop dancing. Set at a smooth tempo a little above the moombah range, the Nu Disco vibes clearly shine through and lift the song up even higher, encouraged by the creamy saw chords and crunchy bassline – not to mention the irregular half-time snare pattern, which was present in “Slowly” as well. Take a listen on Spotify or SoundCloud below, and keep a lookout for the link to purchase this bad boy.
